Team Spotlight: Jon Cooper, Game Designer for Colony

We're thrilled to introduce you to the faces behind Parallel. Our Team Member Spotlight series will provide a glimpse into the work behind the people who drive our organization forward, showcasing their unique talents, passions, and contributions.

Today we are spotlighting Jon Cooper, Game Designer for Colony.

What is your background?

I started in the games industry at Midway Games, where I worked on Mortal Kombat and Stranglehold. I’ve since worked with many studios over the years either co-developing titles or working on in-house games such as Borderlands the Presequal, Path to Luma, and Warhammer 40,000 Dakka Squadron. I have a passion for game design, level design and crafting narratives. So much so that even in my free time, I am developing a tabletop role-playing game, board games, and writing a fantasy novel.

What is the coolest gaming-related work you’ve done before Parallel?

The coolest gaming-related work I’ve done so far would have to be to fulfill a goal I set upon entering the games industry: working on a Warhammer 40k game. In 2021, I shipped Warhammer 40k Dakka Squadron as the creative lead and wrote the script and the overall narrative for it.

What is an example of something you’ve designed for Parallel?

I am currently leading the design of the Colony game, I’ve defined the core loop and designed the crafting, gathering, and progression systems. I’m also involved in the pre-production design of a future Parallel Game.

What is something you are looking forward to in terms of Parallel?

I’m looking forward to working with the great Colony team towards its completion and helping develop [redacted].

If you had to pick one Parallel to join, which would it be?

I think I’d join the Augencore, sweet mechs and cyberware sound like a good time.
