Team Spotlight: Jason Woodall, Senior Unity Engineer
We're thrilled to introduce you to the faces behind Parallel. Our Team Member Spotlight series will provide a glimpse into the work behind the people who drive our organization forward, showcasing their unique talents, passions, and contributions.
Today we are spotlighting Jason Woodall, Senior Unity Developer on the TCG.
What is your background?
I'm a software developer. In school, I did my thesis on Autonomous Mobile Robotics and focused on robot locomotion. After university, I started work on Microsoft Fighter Ace - one of the first massively multiplayer games able to have 200 concurrent users in a world war II dogfighting game. I then moved to business applications and educational software, working on mobile applications for almost every device from PalmPilot, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Android, and iOS. Ten years ago, I was able to pivot back into my first love which is games. I have seen a number of products, mostly mobile, from inception to live operations including Draw a Stickman 3, Archer: Danger Phone, and Payday: CrimeWar.
What is the coolest gaming-related work you’ve done before Parallel?
Some of my favourite accomplishments are winning the Cheapass Survivor at Gencon (card/board game), working on PayDay: CrimeWar which was a great game that sadly was cancelled before it had a chance to shine, and bringing Draw a Stickman 3 from conception to release was a great accomplishment.
What is an example of something you’ve designed for Parallel?
I'm reasonably new to Parallel, but I'm happy to have been at the forefront to get some of the UI/card readability improvements that we see in 0.50.0.
What is something you are looking forward to in terms of Parallel?
I'm really looking forward to driving the playability and user experience changes that we want to happen in the next iterations of the game.
If you had to pick one Parallel to join, which would it be?
I'm partial to the druidic Earthen although I might be more of a Kathari.
What are your social handles? (Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
I am not a huge fan of social media and think we might be better off without it.
